I bought this for $519 and aside from the adjustable air ride, which has been replaced with coil springs, everything works! I almost wish it wasn't so nice, so I could use it as a LeMons car.

It even came with the stock stereo, tools and owner's manual. It's got 146k miles and the only downside is it has the shitty 3-speed automatic, but the red subaru in the background is going to donate its drivetrain to fix that.

I tried to explain to my friends and family how awesome this is, but no one seems to understand what could be good about a nearly 30 year old $500 car.

Oooh, Nice. 4wd? I just found a Subaru Brat on ebay.

It's a GL-10, which is the turbo push button 4x4. I keep looking for BRATs, but they all seem to be way over priced. I've seen rough examples with 300K miles that people still expect to get $1500 for.

Nice, well worth the $500. A Brat would be a fairly badass parts runner for that price.

My E30 was £275, which is $459 at today's price. Manual, natch. I thought it would be a horror show at that price, but apart from replacing a leaking power steering pipe, there's been nothing major wrong. Saying that, the front suspension needs a complete overhaul to be right - new shocks, new bushes, probably new ball joints, so might as well just replace the wishbones and springs as well while you're there. And there's a bad exhaust blow. Other than that, it's been unbelievably good.

My Dad got a 1978 Subaru BRAT for $275. It ran and drove.

that is amazing. A few years ago, I feel like you could get a running e 30 for that, but lately I haven't seen so much a s a parts car for less than $1500.

Four doors seem to be a bit cheaper pretty much everywhere, and mine is one. But it was also a pretty good bargain on ebay.

When I say it's been unbelievably good, I mean for a £275 ebay special. The properly good ones go for maybe ten times as much.
